Equality and Diversity in Health Care

Language barriers can have a negative impact on patient care.

Studies indicate that language barriers adversely affect health outcomes, healthcare access, utilisations and effectiveness in NHS healthcare.

Language barriers can lead to ineffective communications with providers which in turn and lead to uncertainty, stress and hurdles that affect the implementation of culturally competent and patient centred care.

People who do not speak English well may struggle accessing primary care services, and generally have a poorer patient experience.

With this in mind, Rivermead Gate Medical Centre is please to say that we have a number of support mechanisms in place :

Loop system

We have a mobile Loop Hearing system which is turned on at all times. This will assist those hard of hearing and who wear hearing aids. By turning the hearing aid setting to T you can benefit from the Loop system.

British Sign Language

We have access to BSL interpreters. They have to be booked in advance for your appointment so when requesting an appointment please explain to the receptionist and we will do our best to book this for you.

DA Languages Ltd (Interpreting Service)

This is a telephone interpreting service which is available to all clinicians for their consultations. This does not need to be booked in advance, however it would be helpful if you explain when booking that you will need an interpreter as we may need to allow additional time for your appointment.

Accurx online

This is our online service for contacting the surgery. You can request appointments and administrative items by completing an online form.
