Current appointment system

(Update 9th January 2024)

With effect from 1st January the Practice has made the decision to only allow bookings two weeks in advance.

Unfortunately due the pressure on the service and the increasing number of DNA’s and failed appointments we have chosen to trial this for a couple of months.

There will be some exceptions to the rule, baby immunisations, smears and Long Term Condition appointments can be booked 4 weeks in advance.

Please bear with us whilst we monitor how this is doing.

We now offer both telephone appointments and face to face appointments for all clinicians. Please note that children, skin conditions, lumps, bumps and rashes should be booked as a face to face appointment so that the clinician can see what is going on.

Most surgery sessions have appointments which may be booked up to 4 weeks in advance. The remaining appointments are booked on the day. This helps to keep the rate of non-attended appointments to a minimum. You may see any of the doctors or our nurse practitioner but it is recommended that you endeavour to see the same person for on-going problems to ensure continuity of care.  If you provide your mobile telephone number you will receive an SMS test message to confirm your appointment.

You may have to wait longer to see a preferred doctor when booking an appointment. If you have an urgent medical problem and the surgery is fully booked you will either be seen by the nurse practitioner or a doctor at the end of the morning session that day. Under these circumstances the receptionist may ask for brief details of your condition so that your need can be assessed.

Appointments with the doctor and all of our other clinical staff are always in short supply so please let us know, giving as much notice as possible, if you are unable to attend. We can then offer the time to someone else.

Review of appointment system

We are reviewing the appointment system that was introduced in March 2022.

To support this the reception team will ask the reason for your visit, this is so that they can determine the type of appointment needed and the most appropriate clinician to book you with.

There will be a few slots per sessions which are pre-bookable, however the majority of appointments will be book on the day.

We will be closely monitoring this and making adjustments as required.

Call recording policy

All calls are recorded for training and monitoring purposes.

The purpose of call recording is to:

  • Protect practice staff from nuisance and abusive calls
  • Identify any issues in practice processes with a view to improving them
  • Support clinicians with a record of telephone consultations.

Patients who wish to opt out of call recording will be asked to come to the practice and speak in person.
